My First Experience With The Blinking Red Light

If you have Blink camera red light flashing issues, you should know that you aren’t alone, and this is something that can happen from time to time.

Let me tell you about my first encounter with the blink camera’s blinking red light. I remember it like it was yesterday, even a few years ago. I felt chuffed, having just set up my new Blink camera and Sync Module. I felt like a genuine tech whizz, and I couldn’t wait to start monitoring my home like a boss.

But, as soon as I set everything up and turned on the camera, I noticed the blinking red light flashing furiously. At first, I didn’t think anything of it. It was just a standard part of the Blink camera’s design. However, as the day wore on, I noticed that the blinking red light wasn’t just a simple indicator of the camera’s activity. In fact, it was a sign that something was seriously wrong.

After a little investigation, I realized that the problem was with the placement of my Blink Sync Module. I had set it up in a spot that was too far away from my router, and the internet connection to the module was weak. This, in turn, was causing the blinking red light to go crazy.

But what does it mean when the Blink camera flashes red?

Blink Camera Blinking Red Light

Why Is My Blink Camera Blinking Red?

You’re probably wondering what’s up with that pesky flashing red light on your Blink camera. It means that your camera is having trouble connecting to your Wi-Fi. Don’t worry. This happens to the best of us.

It could be a few things causing the issue, like:

  • Weak internet wi-fi signal.
  • Low batteries on the camera.
  • Other hardware issues.

Specific Things to Look For

If you’re seeing a red light while trying to capture those memories, here are a few things to keep an eye out for. Are you noticing it flashing like crazy, or is it just a steady red beam? Is it only happening when you’re recording your life’s greatest moments, or is it also present when you switch between those trusty old batteries and the shiny new ones? Trust me, getting to the bottom of this red-light situation will make all the difference.

Blink Camera Flashing Red 6 Times

If your Blink camera’s red light flashes six times, it usually means the batteries are low and need to be replaced. Usually, you will also notice that this happens after the blue recording light turns off.

To fix this issue, replace both AA batteries at the same time. The blinking red light should stop when you replace them, and the camera should start recording again.

Blink Camera Blinks Red 5 Times

If the red light blinks five times, it is usually the same issue as when it blinks six times. Low battery is causing the camera to not be able to find the wi-fi connection. Replace both batteries at the same time and see if that helps.

Solid Red Light On Blink Camera Mini

When a Blink Mini camera shows a solid red light, this is usually caused by one of two things. Either the camera is not connecting to the internet, or the setup process for the camera was not completed.

To fix this, start by resetting the camera. Take a small pin or paper clip and press the reset button on the bottom of the camera. Wait for the light to change from red to blinking green / solid blue.

If the camera still shows the red light for 2 minutes after resetting it, you may need to call Blink support to get help.

Blink Camera Red Light When Recording

If your camera is flashing red while recording, it usually means that the batteries are low and need to be replaced.

You can also sometimes have issues with your wi-fi connection causing this. If that is the case, you can try resetting the wi-fi connection in your router.

Blink Camera Flashing Red With New Batteries

If your camera has a blinking red light after installing new batteries, there are a couple things that you can try to fix it.

First, try different batteries. Maybe the batteries you used were old and not of excellent quality. Next, try resetting the camera.

If this still doesn’t work, you may need help from Blink support, as they have some additional troubleshooting steps to try and fix this, such as calling your router manufacturer or talking to your internet service provider.

How to Turn Off Red Light on Blink Camera

We went through a few different recommendations for fixes based on specific red light occurrences, but what if none of those worked? There is actually one other thing that you can try that is successful most of the time:

Take out both batteries.

Insert one battery.

Hold down the reset button and insert the second battery simultaneously.

Let go of the reset button.

Power cycle your Sync Module to reset the Sync Module.

Rescan the camera.

You should see the camera updating itself, and once that is done, it should start working again.

Conclusion

As you can probably see, this really isn’t too hard of an issue to resolve. You should be good to go with a couple new batteries and a reset.

But, sometimes, the blinking red light is much more severe and affects more than just your Blink camera. If this ever happens to you, contact Blink support right away. They should be able to walk you through some additional steps to ensure the issue doesn’t reoccur.
